Discover Bruno's Of Brooklyn, Italian Eatery

Walking into Bruno's Of Brooklyn, Italian Eatery at 2149 First St, Fort Myers, FL 33901, United States feels less like visiting a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone’s family kitchen. The smell of simmering tomato sauce hits first, followed by the sound of laughter drifting from nearby tables. I’ve eaten at plenty of Italian spots across Florida, but this one stands out because it leans hard into tradition without feeling stuck in the past.

The menu reads like a love letter to classic Italian-American cooking. You’ll find staples like chicken parmigiana, baked ziti, and spaghetti with meatballs, all made the way you’d expect from a Brooklyn-style Italian eatery. During my last visit, I watched the kitchen staff stretch fresh dough for pizza while sauces bubbled slowly on the stove. That slow-cook approach matters. According to data shared by the National Restaurant Association, dishes prepared with longer cooking times and fewer shortcuts tend to score higher in customer satisfaction, especially in comfort-food categories like Italian cuisine. You can taste that patience here.

One dish that keeps showing up in reviews is the lasagna. Layers are generous, the ricotta is creamy rather than dry, and the meat sauce has that rich depth that only comes from hours of cooking. I asked a server about it once, and she explained the sauce is started early in the morning and built in stages, adding herbs gradually instead of all at once. That method lines up with techniques taught by organizations like the Italian Culinary Institute, which emphasizes gradual seasoning to avoid overpowering flavors.

Pizza lovers have plenty to get excited about too. The crust strikes a balance between crisp and chewy, a detail that many places miss. Research from food science journals often points out that hydration levels and fermentation time directly affect dough texture. Bruno’s approach-letting the dough rest longer-results in a slice that folds without cracking and holds toppings without getting soggy. It’s the kind of pizza you remember long after the plate is cleared.

Location plays a big role in the restaurant’s charm. Sitting just off downtown Fort Myers, it attracts a mix of locals, office workers on lunch break, and travelers hunting for a reliable Italian meal. I’ve chatted with regulars who drive across town weekly because, as one put it, this place reminds me of Sunday dinners growing up. That sense of nostalgia is hard to manufacture, and it shows up again and again in customer reviews.

Service deserves its own mention. On one visit, I noticed a family struggling to choose from the menu, and the server walked them through portion sizes, spice levels, and even suggested splitting dishes to sample more flavors. That kind of guidance builds trust. Studies in hospitality management often highlight that informed, attentive service increases repeat visits more than décor or marketing ever could.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. On busy nights, wait times can stretch a bit longer than expected, especially for dine-in orders. The staff is upfront about it, though, and many guests seem to accept the trade-off for food that isn’t rushed. If timing is tight, calling ahead or opting for takeout can help.

What really anchors Bruno’s reputation is consistency. Over multiple visits, the flavors stayed true, portions didn’t shrink, and the overall experience felt reliable. In an industry where turnover and shortcuts are common, that steadiness signals care and professionalism. It’s why the restaurant continues to earn strong reviews and why locals recommend it without hesitation.

If you’re scanning menus online or comparing locations for Italian food in Fort Myers, this eatery holds its own through honest cooking, knowledgeable staff, and an atmosphere that feels earned rather than staged. Everything on the table reflects a clear respect for Italian culinary roots, served in a way that feels warm, familiar, and genuinely satisfying.

  • Food was superb. The red sauce was balanced and subtle. The homemade pasta cooked to perfection. Veal chop was as tender as cutting into butter. The zuppa di mussels were full of flavor and did not skimp on the portion of mussels or the flavorful broth. Do not miss out on the sangria service. The atmosphere was calming and romantic. Yet casual enough to not feel the need to dress up. Our server Matthew was knowledgable of the entire menu, paid attention to every detail and made us feel we would not lack for anything. He was fantastic. An amazing first experience at Brunos! We enjoyed our wedding anniversary lunch! Only constructive criticism I would offer… a larger table would be helpful. We italians move our hands a lot and luckily we didnt break anything. This time…LOL

  • Absolutely amazing! As three women from NYC with two Italians at the table who grew up in our grandmothers country… perfecto! It tasted like our grandmothers red sauce. No higher compliment than that. The service and food was very good! Presentation is very classy. Good the price, very much worth it with big portions. Clean atmosphere. Staff works well together and very attentive!

Others enjoyed the Tomahawk pork chop, chicken parm and the broccoli Olive with shrimp! There were NO complaints!!!! The espresso martini was a great way to end the evening!!!! We sat outside and our server was Zachery and he was delightful!!!

  • Very cool spot in Down Town Fort Myers. The food is excellent it’s excellent papardelle pasta nice and thin sauce had wonderful flavour without being too heavy and all the starters were a hit. I wish the pate was seared with a chefs torch before coming out, that would be my only complaint. I my was too cold to enjoy. Torching it like a foie gras would have been a little more enjoyable but that’s my only complaint if I had to choose one. The Server Zachary was STELLAR. A high level of service and attention from start to finish and the girl that was his helper out on the patio tonight was also very pleasant to deal with and interact. Checked up on us a perfect amount of times without being invasive. Was 10 out of 10 for me and I look forward to coming back here. Ask for Zachary if you want a fun and engaging dinning experience !!

  • Went for a late lunch around 2:15. They let us order from the dinner menu which was great. We had the meatball appetizer and I ordered the sausage and pepper entree while my husband ordered lasagna and meatballs. The taste and flavor were wonderful, the pasta was cooked al dente. The only downside was the meatballs and sausage were slightly over cooked but the lovely flavors of the meal made up for it.

  • Wonderful dining experience. The team made me feel welcome, took the time to explain the menu, and suggested wine pairing options. The food was excellent. My elk was perfectly prepared. There is a lot of Italian food in the marketplace, but this restaurant is exceptionally good. I look forward to returning to eat at the chef's table.

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited Bruno’s of Brooklyn in Fort Myers for the first time as a family, and it was absolutely wonderful! Our server, Matthew, took great care of us and made the afternoon feel special. My husband and I shared the beet salad and a pasta dish—both were delicious and more than enough to share. The kids ordered pasta as well, and the children’s portions were the perfect size (our 12-year-old didn’t even finish his, which says a lot!). Everything about the experience was excellent—great food, welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service. We’ll definitely be going back!
